What is the Difference Between Mouth to Lung & Direct to Lung Vaping

Categories : All Articles

How you choose to inhale can have a significant impact on your vaping experience, the most common options being Mouth to Lung and Direct to Lung.

So what’s the difference, and how does it affect your vaping?

Mouth to lung

Mouth to lung vaping (MTL) involves drawing the vapour into your mouth first and holding it there before inhaling it into your lungs. It’s a similar technique to smoking a regular cigarette.

Direct to lung

Direct to lung vaping (DTL) involves taking a deep breath and drawing the vapour all the way into your lungs in one go.

Which is better for me?

It depends on what you want from your vaping experience. For many vapers, the DTL method is a more intense form of delivery, so it may not be the best solution for the newcomer. Conversely, the MTL technique is very similar to the way smokers inhale a cigarette, so anybody picking up a vaping device to quit smoking may find this more familiar.

Flavour

Mouth to lung vaping allows you savour the aroma and flavours of your chosen e-liquid. All your olfactory senses are housed in and around the mouth and nose area, so holding your vapour here promises a more satisfying taste explosion.

Strength

When vaping direct to lung, you’re taking in a lot more of the vapour in one go and, consequently, a much bigger hit of nicotine. If you looking for that more intense hit, DTL is the way to go. Equally, by using DTL, you can dial down on the amount of nicotine you include in your e-liquid knowing that the comparative hit will not be affected.
