E-liquid is the stuff that that creates the flavoured vapour in your electronic cigarette. There are thousands of flavourings for e cigs that you can purchase online but many e cigarette aficionados think that these can often be a bit lacking in flavour, not to mention pricey. The good news is you can totally make e-liquid yourself in the comfort of your own home. There are two ways to do it. The first one is for chemistry geeks and the second one is for the smart guys.
The Hard Way
Let me warn you, mixing your own liquid isn’t as easy as you think it would be. It’s a combination of both art and science, but if you are willing to take chances, then here’s how to do it right. Your core components are nicotine, base carriers and flavour.
The main ingredients:
- Liquid Nicotine
- Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
- Propylene Glycol (PG)
- Flavouring
Those are the basic ingredients of your e-liquid. Well, that and a few tears, a dash of anxiety, a pinch of joy and a cup of sweat and money (Just kidding!).
WARNING: Nicotine in its pure, undiluted form can be absorbed through the skin and nicotine poisoning can be fatal. You should ensure that you use protective equipment when handling pure nicotine.
If you prefer not to use nicotine, for example if you’re making an e shisha liquid, then you can skip this part.
Now we’re off to create the base carrier fluid. This is where the Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG) come in. They may sound foreign to you, but these FOOD GRADE ingredients have been commonly used in food and cosmetics for over 50 years. VG is responsible for creating vapour, while PG creates a sensational throat hit. Some vapers have a sensitivity to Propylene Glycol, so creating an e-liquid using 100% VG allows them to continue vaping. Before jumping in and creating large batches of liquids, conduct a trial in small amounts to highlight any areas that can be improved. Start with a 50/50 measurement and customise according to your preference.
Lastly, we need to add FOOD GRADE, heat resistant and water soluble flavourings for e cig. Avoid using additives that contain oil or sugar, these won’t be effective in creating your e-liquid.
That’s it! Four basic ingredients. Now for the most awful part - MATH. You need to decide on your ratios, and the strength of your vapour. If you don’t know where to start, the most common starting strength is medium, 18mg (1.8%) nicotine and 10% flavouring. Instead of bothering with computation, use an online ejuice calculator and you’re good to go.
THE EASIEST WAY
We did tell you that there was a less complicated way to do. You’ll still be able to create your own e-liquid without the bother of going through a long and tedious process (not to mention potentially dangerous).
F&S offers an unflavoured e-liquid base that is available with 100% VG, 100% PG or a pre-mixed combination of the two. Our 100% bases allow you to create custom PG/VG ratios while our pre-mixed bases are available in the most popular ratios: PG/VG 30/70 50/50 and 70/30. All of our pre-mixed e-liquid bases are available in a variety of nicotine strengths from 0% to 2.4%.
